Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
